When it comes to regional history, there is no need to mention that how and to what extent the History of Orissa is neglected. When it comes to History in general, the history of the second sex ‘women’ received the least attention and most of the time the status of women get a place of not more than (sub) sub-heading of a research. This book is an attempt of its kind to bring these two neglected topics into one platform. In this book a noble attempt has been made to show that women in 18thcentury Orissa were not suppress as expected from an orthodox society like of Orissa rather the women had an ‘active’ role in the private sphere which in many instances influenced the public sphere of men. So, this book argue for a new perspective (not like feminist history) to study the history where these ‘active’ roles of women in private sphere should be given due attention while studying the history of state craft and society.
