This book attempts to explore the nature and direction of the environment development debate through the writings of three women environmentalists who used scientific tools to analyze the formulation of development policies and its necessary consequence and impact upon the lives of people and future generations. The work endeavours to explore few prime areas in their writings:

  • The philosophical tools used as a basic framework for their environmental narratives and situational analysis i.e. the cost-benefit analysis, ecosystem approach, deep ecology or religious — spiritual or cultural argument?
  • A narrative on the nature and role of government i.e. altruistic, benign or controlled by vested interests, corrupt and non-participatory.
  • The nature of global interaction in environment and the prospective role of international agencies and United Nations in reaching out to the voices of ordinary people.
