Similarly what it is for a ruling nation to lose its control over a sub-continent like India before 1947 cannot be easily stated. Indias throes in her struggle for freedom, and the administrative response of the British to the struggle, vis-à-vis the two, the role crucial hour form the subject matter of the book. Since India has been a country of the complex culture and multi-races, the uniformity of voice in the press cannot be expected, except course, their common land. The Nationalist Press alone managed to master public opinion against the British rulers. The author has made an honest attempt to secure the press and those responsible for them an enduring place in the history of Freedom Struggle in Tamil Nadu.
