Sociolinguistics – A guide to language problems in India contains a detailed analysis of the various aspects of language problem of India. Building on the theories of sociolonguistics and draw in extensive examples from a diversity of both historical and contemporary events of India and comparing them with similar situations in other parts of the world, the author identifies and evaluates the primary themes in studies of the relationship between language and society. The author treats the problems arising out of the multiplicity of languages in relation to nation building. Centre-State relations, linguistic minorities, in and out-migration, education etc. These problems are articulated in various forms of language movement.
