?Social Economy of an Affluent Village? is an addition to the series of ?Village Studies? conducted by Agro-Economic Research Centre, Shimla. The decision to undertake the survey of village Kiari in tehsil Kotkhai was influenced by the continuous interaction and work in the field of horticulture by the researchers. Due to higher profitability from fruit cultivation the inhabitants of the village have moved to higher echelons of the economic life as compared with the other parts of the State. The results of this detailed socio-economic study can be replicated to other similar parts of the State. The book highlights many distinctions which the village has to its credit in various fields. In the present study social and demographic structure, resource structure including land, labour and capital, marketing system of agricultural produce, household economy and people?s participation in different detail. The factors and causes which have resulted in the affluence have also been identified and analysed.
