Vithalbhai Jhaverbhai Patel's role in India's freedom struggle had been note-worthy. The present day India needs to be reminded of his contribution to our freedom movement throughout his life. His was a chequered parliamentary career. He was the Mayor of Bombay, a member of the Bombay Legislative Council, Imperial Legislative Council and lastly the President of Central Legislative Assembly. His role everywhere was outstanding. This work in eight volumes covers the period from 1918 to1933 and throws a considerable light on all facts of Shri V. J. Patel's life analysing his speeches, statements, circulars as also important correspondence with eminent contemporary personalities like Lokmanya Tilak, Lala Lajpatrai, Gandhiji, Lord Irwin etc. His role in several important events of his times, his personality, his contribution to the freedom struggle, his role as a non-official ambassador of India, presenting India's case to several nations, etc. are highlighted in these volumes.
Dr. Ravindra Kumar (b. 1959), is a former VIce-Chancellor of Meerut University, Meerut (U.P.). He also served as a Lecturer in the Deptt. of Pol. Sc., S.D.P.G. College Muzaffar Nagar. He has been associated with the Research Centre of Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel National Memorial, Ahmedabad and Sardar Patel National Society, New Delhi. A prolific writer, Dr. Kumar has authored many thought provoking works including Problem of Communalism in India, and Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel ke Samajik aur Rajnaitik Vichar (in Hindi). Formerly Secretary to the Commonwealth Historians Society, Dr. Kumar is a member of International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism, Chief Editor for the Committee of the Selected works of Shri N. V. Gadgil and is closely associated with a number of social, political, academic and cultural institutions/ organisations.
