Role of Muslims in the National Movement 1912-1930: A Study of Bihar’ is a documentary and interpretative study of the role of the Muslims of Bihar in freedom movement from 1912 to 1930 with a comprehensive background of the growth of social and political consciousness among the Muslims of Bihar since the outbreak of 1857 war of Independence. It is substantially based on original sources located in different archives and libraries, private papers of eminent contemporaries as well as vernacular newspapers and journals of India. It brings into focus for the first time the Muslim side of the story of the struggle for freedom from the alien rule. It throws light on different dimensions of the national movement from a pluralistic point of view. The book embraces both the British and Indian sides of the story of the freedom movement in successive phases. It provides a deep insight into the unique characteristics based on hindu-Muslim unity of each phase of the evolution of anti-colonial struggle. It also highlights the Muslim attitude and behaviour and their positive response of different political movements and agitations like the Swadeshi movement, the Non-cooperation movement, the Khilafat movement and the Civil Disobedience movement in 1930. Thus it gives a new perspective to study of the Hindu Muslim entente in the national movement of India. This is likely to prove a highly useful book for teachers and students of History and Political Science as well as for research scholars and all those interested in knowing about a glorious phase of the Indian national movement.
