In the Gandhian tradition of development, much emphasis has been laid on the development of infrastructure in rural areas and towards expansion of village and cottage industries. Special arrangement during the sixth Five Year Plan, was made to develop these industries under IRDP. However, Organization and Management are the two basics of any industrial set-up. In recent years it has often been complained that structural arrangements of village and cottage industries at both the government’s and entrepreneurs’ level are not satisfactory and the management had been very poor which has led to dismal performance of these industries. Prof. Mishra and Miss (Dr.) Kushal Sharma in the present study examine this problem empirically. With the help of case study method, they have first examined the action plan of the DIC and Alwar District in Rajasthan and have tried to evaluate the functioning of different organizations engaged in the task of expansion of village and small-scale industries. Finally based on the perception of officials and entrepreneurs, they have tried to identify the problem areas. The meaningful suggestions, they have put forward in the concluding Chapter, will certainly help the policy planners and implementing agencies in solving the problem of organizational requirements of village and small scale industries. It is likely to prove a highly useful book for researchers and students of rural development in general and village and small-scale industries in particular.
