The book has been written to suit students, teachers as well as policy makers in general and for those in particular who are engaged with the study of tribals and/or tribal areas. The initial chapters have been devoted to desribe existing status of the cultivators which includes socio-economic characteristics. The existing levels of yield, investment and income give the picture of peoplein Tribal areas which can be used for comparison for any other study conducted or to be conducted at later stage. Mixed farming is important factor of agricultural development in tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh. Sheep farming is key enterprise in mixed farming. To find out the sixe of sheep folk with different categories of farms, mixed integer programming has been used which gives precise information on this vital aspect. The study is based on primary data collected through personal interview which further enhances its utility. The bibliography given at the end of the book will be of tremendous help to all who go through this piece of literature in economics and do research on economics of mixed farming in general and on tribal areas in particular

 

Dr. R.K. Sharma (b. 1952) had a good academic career, having obtained B.Sc. (Ag.) and M.Sc. (Econ.) from PAU, Ludhiana. He obtained his Doctorate from Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur, Currently, he is Associate Professor in HPKV, Palampur. He has so far contributed more than 25 research articles in reputed journals, besides teaching Post-Graduate classes. Dr. T.V. Moorti (b. 1934) had brilliant academic career. He obtained his Ph.D. (Agricultural Economics) from G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar after having specialised training from Cornell University, USA Presently, he is Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Economics, Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Palampur. In addition to teaching Post Graduate classes, he has over hundred research articles to his credit in reputed journals.
