About the Book

Manipur, an erstwhile princely State before Independence of India in 1947, is one of the North-Eastern states of the Indian Union. The North-Eastern Region is mostly hilly except the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam and the bowl-shaped valley of Manipur. The State is bounded in the north by Nagaland, in the east by Myanmar, in the south by Mizoram and in the west by Assam. The People of Manipur settle in both the hills and valley. The hills of Manipur are inhabited by various ethnic groups. It has as many as 33 scheduled tribes. The Mao Naga tribe is one of the major tribes. The present book deals on the demographic dynamics with special reference to birth control measures among the Mao Nagas. The book is an attempt to provide an in-depth insight of the community which may help in planning out developmental strategy/strategies for the tribal population in general and for this population in particular.
