The gender differences in Infant mortality is considered as an important variable to bring to notice all such districts which exhibit the high female Infant mortality in comparison to the IMR among males. This reflects the various socio-cultural biases operating in the care and nurturance of girls’ right from infancy. The infant mortality rates and death rates among female children are much higher in Uttar Pradesh than at the national level, showing poorer health status of female children. Gender differentials in mortality are similar wider in this region and are evident right from the post neonatal stage onwards. So far researchers have focused research on infant mortality and gender differentials in mortality at the national and state levels, but, very little research work has been done in this field at district level particularly in Uttar Pradesh. Hence, this book is expected to fill this lacuna. Such a micro-level study will be helpful in knowing the extent of inter-district disparities in IMR across the districts of Uttar Pradesh. This book will help to identify the factors related to slow decline in IMR and sex discrimination in IMR.The collection of District-wise secondary data on a large number of related variable and its detailed statistical analysis will help in identifying the legging district where special policy interventions are needed.
