Many people spend large parts of each day indoor – in many cases, 80-90 percent-in a house, and autmobile, a waiting room, an office or other workplace, or a confined space accessible to the general public, such as a stoe or a resturant. It has shown that indoor exposure to environmental pollutants can be substantial. In the past few decades in the developing countries there have been continuing conflicts, assumed and real, between ecology and development. Though environmental awareness has come of age in the country, environmentalists have not been able to capitalise on this to the desirable extent because the issues are often not properly focussed. With the increasing pressure of population, the environment in developing countries suggests a scene of rapid and continuing degradation. Each topic in this book has been written, edited and compiled in a coherent and lucid way. Historical and current statistics have been included mainly from Indian, Japanese, Canada and American experiences in order to show the progress that has been made in its recent past in overcoming different types of pollutions.
