Culture and personality has provided a fertile field for the extension of theories from a variety of disciplines, including cultural anthropology, psychoanalysis, and sociology. A number of differing viewpoints on the relation between culture and personality have developed and influenced investigators in this field. Since it is virtually impossible to understand the contributions of these investigators without being acquainted with the range of their conceptions of culture-personality relations, this book is designed to review the fundamental and theoretical orientation extant in the field.
