Urban Land use study is an essential part of a larger process of city planning. It is concerned with location, intensity and amount of land development required for various space using functions of city life. Social values and human behaviour play an important role in shaping the pattern of urban land use. Urban land use policy provides guidance in the use and reuse of land, curbing misuse, preventing the abuse and regulating the non-use in the better interest of the people. The authors have made an extensive study of urban land uses of metropolitan Bhopal. The study examines various categories of land uses as they exist today and suggests a plan of development for future. The Indian city, however, has its own peculiar structure which cannot be tested on theories evolved for western cities. The book is a significant contribution in the field of urban geography, particularly in urban land use studies and city planning. Well illustrated with tables, maps and diagrams the book would meet the requirements of urban geographers, city planners, sociologists and researchers.
