There is hardly and study on Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY) which focuses on or critically examines its impact on capital formation, employment and in come generation in the rural economy. This volume is an effort towards bridging this gap. Impact of the Yojana has been examined by adopting ‘before and After’ evaluation design. The concept of opportunity cost has been used to assess the net benefits accruing to the beneficiaries. Besides, people’s participation through Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabha in implementation of the scheme has been examined in the study. Based on the findings, a suggestive framework for recasting and redesigning the scheme has also been given in the book. The book would be useful to researchers, policy makers—in particular, rural developers, voluntary organisations and all those engaged in promoting rural development through employment generation and infrastructural development. It will be of special benefit as a supplementary reading for Departments of Rural Development and Training and other bodies of their kind.
